Does Every Artist Need a Signature Style?
One of the questions I hear most is whether an artist needs a signature style.
It's a fair question.
Collectors often want consistency. Galleries do too. When someone sees your work across the room, there's something powerful about immediately knowing who made it.
But I don't think a signature style is something you decide. I think it's something
you discover.

The more work you make, the more patterns begin to appear. Certain colors. Certain materials. Certain subjects. Certain questions you can't seem to
stop asking.
For me, charcoal continues to pull me back. No matter what else I explore, it's the medium that feels most honest.
Maybe that's my signature.
Or maybe it's simply where I am today. I don't think artists should rush to find their style.
I think they should make enough work that their style finds them.
What do you think?
Until next month,
